WESTFIELD C.C. ---John Cornford Memorial Cup
This match is played each year between Westfield CC and Sedlescombe CC in memory of John Cornford who was a well known and respected local cricketer and was associated with both teams.
Westfield CC retained the cup yesterday (Sun 17th September) in an excellent match with some more milestones for the club being achieved.
Our second Colt, Zach Turner, played his first adult game and contributed well to the win. Zac is the step-son of Darren Corke who scored an excellent undefeated 114 runs as well as taking 2 wickets for 20 runs and not to be outdone Graham Corke, who is Darren’s father, took 4 wkts for 36 runs---an excellent family contribution. Also congratulations to Graham who has been selected to tour Australia early next year as a member of the ECB Senior side----an international who is a member of Westfield CC !!!
Skipper, Peter Baker, scored 60 runs and retired so that young Zach would have the opportunity to bat in his first adult game. In the process of scoring his runs Peter passed 1,000 runs for the season which is an amazing feat at any level of cricket so huge congratulations to him.

This was the last competitive home game of the season and next week we are holding an end of season fun cricket day with our All Stars, Colts and Senior Players enjoying some fun cricket among themselves and parents so Mums and Dads will be joining in. Patrick will also be providing a BBQ so can everybody please keep everything crossed so that we get some good weather!
Despite the considerable growth in the village population over the last few years we have been very fortunate to retain a surgery providing great service & convenience. The demands have increased not only by way of patient numbers but also the administrative load required by law.
There are several ways in which we as patients can help reduce this load & contribute to the efficient running of our practice.
Quite clearly the telephone is very busy when the surgery opens & it would be helpful for routine enquiries i.e. test results & other general enquiries to be left until later in the morning.
From the beginning of the year 72 hours’ notice has been required for repeat prescriptions. A considerable procedure is involved from the time you make the request to ensure that you get the right medication, and all prescriptions must be signed & checked by a doctor. The pharmacy staff dispense some 12,000 items every month and at this stage a double check is carried out. You are asked to check that your medication is correct before you leave the surgery so that any queries can be dealt with immediately (once you have left the building any mistakes in medication have to be disposed of).
Have you ticked all the boxes? Do you really need all the medication from the boxes that have been ticked? A very considerable quantity of medication is wasted each month, either because it is not needed or boxes have been ticked as a matter of routine – so easy when we are in a hurry. Indeed some medications may be used very infrequently and have a “use by” date i.e. Trinitrate sprays (for angina) or Epipens (for allergic reactions). While we need to have these medications available if we are lucky they may never be used.
Finally each month a considerable number of appointments are made which are not kept. If you are unable to keep an appointment please let the surgery know in good time so that the slot can be offered to another patient.

WESTFIELD C.C. ---Colts (10 September 2017)
The starting of a Colts section this season to develop young cricketers as the future of WCC is beginning to pay off as we had our first Colt, Milo Stratford, playing in a friendly match today against Mountfield CC and we also have three more youngsters waiting to play their part in the future of the cricket club—Zach Turner, Zach Currie and Shae Walsh.
It is always daunting playing your first senior game of cricket and Milo played his part on the winning side including 2 wkts for 8 runs (WCC won by 94 runs) so well done to Milo and we hope to see more good things from you and the other Colts next year and going forward especially now we have two sides in the East Sussex League starting next season.
WESTFIELD C.C. - League Update 2017
Congratulations to Peter Baker (Captain) and his team who finished our league season last Saturday (27th August) with a comprehensive and important win over closest rivals Kerala Strikers.
We are top of division 9. However, Kerala Strikers still have one more game to play next Saturday and if they win then they will take over as leaders of the division and we will finish in a creditable 2nd place. By finishing in 2nd place we are still guaranteed promotion again, and will play in division 8 next season. However this may change as ESCL are currently reviewing their league structure for next season, but we will still be playing at a higher level.
After 224* years of playing friendly matches the decision was made to enter a side into the East Sussex Cricket League, and we started in division 12 which is the lowest division so our progress has been excellent given that we will be in division 8 next season.
Congratulations must also go to the background members for all their hard work and support throughout the season, especially David (Leggy) Legg and his trusty helpers for providing the best wickets in the division, if not the county, every week.
It is testament to players and members that we were undefeated at home this season in the league and only lost early season friendly games when we were testing ourselves against higher level opposition.
